It’s a sad read (in my opinion), but my father did come home. Ultimately it’s a happy ending.

The half-hour talk heartened some wives.
”It was amazing,” said Margaret Taylor, whose husband is on the USS Vreeland, a frigate. ”He got everybody thinking in a positive way. He gave us a brighter outlook.”
But other wives were disappointed that they did not learn more about their husbands’ futures.
For instance, Gisele Briley said she felt as though she had attended a pep rally.
”All I care about is what’s going on over there,” she said, escorting her two children.
The sight of soldiers in uniform left her son, Hunter, with expectations that his father, Robert Briley, had returned from the USS Philippine, an anti-aircraft cruiser.
Not for a while, the mother said, and walked away.
